Fly Lice

July 17, 2009 at 12:31 pm (lunch) (, , )

Breakfast: The most important meal of the day. And I never eat it. In lieu of eating a(n) (un)healthy breakfast, I choose to sleep until the last possible moment to get ready for work. I’ve been doing this for a long time; probably as far back as intermediate school. To me, sleep>food.

Even so, I love breakfast food. Ever hear of “brinner”? Yeah, that’s just breakfast for dinner (or anytime!). I don’t know if it’s because I so rarely eat it but I do thoroughly enjoy a good breakfast meal. Pancakes, waffles (yes, even waffles), eggs, omelettes, fried rice – I love it all.

Speaking of fried rice (segue!), Nikki had posted the following on Facebook.

made fried rice for breakfast and it turned out awesome.

…Gah! I want fried rice now! She went on to explain the ingredients she used.

It was the first time I tried using the NOH brand seasoning packet for fried rice. I put egg, portuguese sausage and frozen peas and carrots and it came out better than I expected. I was going to make over easy eggs with it too, but we were running short on time this morning.

YOU’RE EVIL. I wanted – nay – NEEDED fried rice now. Unfortunately it was only around nine in the morning. Hours before I’d be able to get anything remotely like fried rice.

Surprisingly, the time flew by rather quickly. Before I knew it, it was lunch time. But where do I go? I work in Waipahu and I am not very familiar with the area food wise. I know where the mainstays are such Jack in the Box and Taco Bell, but there are quite a few smaller eateries in the area I’m afraid to go to because the food might suck. That, and I don’t want to get shivved

I decided on Leeward Drive In. I enjoy most of the food there (on occasion, because somtimes it’s just too everything) and I know they have an all day breakfast menu. Fried rice must be on there, right? I take the short drive down and take a look at the menu. Yes! They do indeed have “fried rice and two eggs” on the menu. “I’ll take the fried rice and two eggs, please. Over-easy on the eggs”. This, I feel is an important part when having just fried rice for a meal: Eggs. And not just any type of eggs. They must be runny. Smashing into the yolk and allowing to spill over into the fried rice, creating this sorta mushy, sticky blend of rice and eggs. That is the way to go.

07-17-09_1121I get my order, along with a green river, and return to the office to consume what I craved. I opened the container and was somewhat disappointed by what I had. ” What? No vegetables?!”, ran through my head. Carrots and peas are such a quintessential part of what made fried rice fried rice when I was growing up. Also, it contained pieces of pork rather than portuguese sausage. I dunno. This is a breakfast item. It was also much darker than I’m accustomed to; it looked more akin to brown rice and fried rice. It did have green onion and bits of scrambled eggs, though. A plus in my book.

Still, even with all its faults, it wasn’t bad. It was okay. The eggs definitely helped here. I probably won’t be ordering it again. I’ll have to find another place that serves such a dish if I ever get the craving again.
Ugh, I probably shouldn’t have eaten as much as I did. And I wish I had more green river. It’s been a while since I’ve had one of these.

Aside: Henh. It’s been a month since my last post. The time between each post is increasing. How long before I just say “eff it” and stop?

Mid-Year Resolutions

June 18, 2009 at 3:18 pm (lunch, Uncategorized) ()

Normally, I’m not one to make New Year’s resolutions, mostly because I know I’m not going to keep them. Stop eating fast food? Ha! Drink less soda? For a week or two, maybe. Exercise more? Haaaaaaa. [As an aside, I actually did all of the above for months last year and actually lost weight. Then I got lazy real quick and gained it all back. Weeee!]

Someone on the board I frequent posted an image showing how much water is used for various tasks [I’d link the image but I can’t find it]. It showed things such as showering versus bathing, light-flow toilets versus heavy-flow, et cetera. One of them was how much water was required for a pound of beef. The image used water drops to represent one gallon and most things had 8-10 drops. Beef on the other hand had several rows and took up an entire column and then some. It was staggering. I was shocked at how much water was required. Thinking about it, though, I probably shouldn’t have been surprised. Short of the obvious things such as drinking water and such for the cows, they use water to clean up, and the water to produce the food for the cows.

Then and there I decided to cut down on the amount of red meat I intake. In terms of saving water the beef I wouldn’t be eating is miniscule, next to nothing, but I also took into consideration the health benefits in reducing the amount of red meat eaten. Now, I’m not cutting it out completely – just reducing what I eat. Heck, this past weekend we went to Shabu-Shabu World (House) and I got the beef/pork set. I’ll just have it maybe once or twice a week as opposed to having had some probably everyday before.

I think this would be a good starting point to getting healthier. Slowly, but surely, I’m going to try and start cutting out unhealthy things in my diet. Beef first, but what’s next? It should probably be soda but I think that might be one of the last things to go. I lurv it too much! Also, I’m still eating other kinds of meat such as chicken and pork. The one thing I should probably get back into is exercising. Gah, but I hated running so much. Wii Fit? Ha.

Nah, I for now I’ll just try to eat better. Y’know, ’cause it requires less effort on my part. Man, this is going to be so hard at barbeques.

Yes, I know. It’s been a while since I last posted anything. It’s been over a month, in fact. I could make excuses like how it’s gotten busy at work (which it has) or that I’m lazy (which I am) but, uh… I’m not sure what I was getting at.

Feel Like Chicken Tonight

May 8, 2009 at 12:09 pm (Internet, lunch) (, , )

Anyone hear about this free KFC grilled chicken coupon thing? Apparently Oprah is hosting this and you can download the coupon and present it to a KFC to receive two free pieces of their new grilled chicken along with a biscuit and two sides. What? You want the link? I wouldn’t bother but here you go. I actually downloaded the coupon and thought about going on the first day, just to see how the food was. Well, of course, I was too lazy.

There are stories going around the Internet that the KFCs are running out of chicken. Not only that but franchise KFCs are not accepting the coupon because Oprah is only reimbursing the corporate owned stores. Shit’s hitting the fan!

Anyway, I wouldn’t bother going to a KFC until this whole shitstorm is over. The coupon expires on 5/19/09.

What’s For Lunch?

February 13, 2009 at 12:43 pm (lunch) (, )

What’s for lunch! The 2/13/09 edition, courtesy of Panda Express.

Fried rice, orange chicken, mushroom chicken with zucchini

As usual, not enough light, resulting in a slightly blurry picture because I’m going through alcohol withdrawl. Doesn’t it just look absolutely scrumptious?!

I also took a picture my camera phone’s flash. Sure, it came out less blurry but it…well, take a look yourself.

Shiny Chinese

Shiny Chinese

My Chinese food, it glistens.
Oh, almost forgot about my fortune cookie. Let’s see…

Someone’s kindness will surprise and delight you

Oh, really?
