Mid-Year Resolutions

Normally, I’m not one to make New Year’s resolutions, mostly because I know I’m not going to keep them. Stop eating fast food? Ha! Drink less soda? For a week or two, maybe. Exercise more? Haaaaaaa. [As an aside, I actually did all of the above for months last year and actually lost weight. Then I got lazy real quick and gained it all back. Weeee!]

Someone on the board I frequent posted an image showing how much water is used for various tasks [I’d link the image but I can’t find it]. It showed things such as showering versus bathing, light-flow toilets versus heavy-flow, et cetera. One of them was how much water was required for a pound of beef. The image used water drops to represent one gallon and most things had 8-10 drops. Beef on the other hand had several rows and took up an entire column and then some. It was staggering. I was shocked at how much water was required. Thinking about it, though, I probably shouldn’t have been surprised. Short of the obvious things such as drinking water and such for the cows, they use water to clean up, and the water to produce the food for the cows.

Then and there I decided to cut down on the amount of red meat I intake. In terms of saving water the beef I wouldn’t be eating is miniscule, next to nothing, but I also took into consideration the health benefits in reducing the amount of red meat eaten. Now, I’m not cutting it out completely – just reducing what I eat. Heck, this past weekend we went to Shabu-Shabu World (House) and I got the beef/pork set. I’ll just have it maybe once or twice a week as opposed to having had some probably everyday before.

I think this would be a good starting point to getting healthier. Slowly, but surely, I’m going to try and start cutting out unhealthy things in my diet. Beef first, but what’s next? It should probably be soda but I think that might be one of the last things to go. I lurv it too much! Also, I’m still eating other kinds of meat such as chicken and pork. The one thing I should probably get back into is exercising. Gah, but I hated running so much. Wii Fit? Ha.

Nah, I for now I’ll just try to eat better. Y’know, ’cause it requires less effort on my part. Man, this is going to be so hard at barbeques.

Yes, I know. It’s been a while since I last posted anything. It’s been over a month, in fact. I could make excuses like how it’s gotten busy at work (which it has) or that I’m lazy (which I am) but, uh… I’m not sure what I was getting at.

    Yes, it’s going to be hard at barbecues.

    Especially since my birthday is coming up. Though, I’ll probably stay away from May’s patties this time around. Why? I don’t know.

    I tried pescetarianism … for like a day. Because, I said I would ease myself in by slowly cutting meat out over serveral weeks. It was too hard, though, and it never stuck. So it was like, only every third day, I avoided meat. But mostly because I didn’t know where to go for filling non-meat meals. Basically, my actual pescetarian meal consisted of a McDonalds Filet-o-Fish meal. And how healthy is THAT?

    Not to discourage you or anything.

    But hey, if you’re gonna do this, I might try a return to pescetarianism.
