Fall Gaming

October 29, 2008 at 3:40 pm (video games) (, , )

Good gravy! If you’re at all invested in gaming as I am, you might have some inkling that this Fall has yet another huge lineup for games. There are more games coming out than I can keep up with, both time wise and financially. I’ve more than come to this realization and have decided to hold off on those games that I want but don’t really need to play right away. I think getting a Gamefly account would help tremendously in this aspect as well. There are a number of games that I want to get but not quite sure they’re going to be great and worth purchasing. With Gamefly I can try it, and if I end up really enjoying it, buy it.

Man, where do I begin? A whole slew of games have already come out that I consider to be part of this Fall rush: Rock Band 2, Guitar Hero: World Tour, Fable 2, Motorstorm 2, Fallout 3, Little Big Planet, Dead Space… I’m sure I’m missing a number of games there. I’ve already picked up Rock Band 2 (with the new drums), Guitar Hero (with a new guitar), Dead Space, and Little Big Planet.

  • Rock Band 2: Friggin’ awesome. With the ability to transfer all but three of the Rock Band 1 songs as well as the huge abundance of downloads already available, Rock Band 2 has the largest tracklist ever. Also, I love the new drums – quiter, sturdier, bouncier.
  • Guitar Hero: World Tour: I dunno. I don’t much care for the look of this game. The characters are kind of ugly, the note tracking is okay (thankfully not as difficult as GH3), but at least the guitar is awesome, except for that squeak. My guitar has this annoying plastic-on-plastic squeak. Still, as down on it as I am, it’s enjoyable enough. I probably won’t be sinking too much into this because I already have so money invested into Rock Band.
  • Dead Space: I love this game. Go get it. Or borrow it from me. I think I’m almost done with it (third time through the game).
  • Little Big Planet: This game is ever so charming. I loved the opening, but haven’t had much time to delve into the game yet. I need to get someone (or three) over to play through with. I think it’d increase the enjoyment immensly.

That’s all (ha) I have so far. Next week there’s Gears of War 2 and Resistance 2, followed by Mirror’s Edge the following week, all of which I will be picking up. I think that’s all I’ll be picking up this Fall. I’m shooting for not picking up any more games until next year. There are a few others I’m on the fence about (Saints Row 2, Tomb Raider, Pure) so I’ll probably set up a Gamefly account to try them out first.

Speaking of Gamefly, I finally got around to setting up a Netflix account. Man, I don’t know why it’s taken me so long to get one. It’s so awesome! I can stop buying DVDs that I’ll only watch once, or not at all even, and just rent. I’ll definitely still be buying all of the big blockbusters and movies I really enjoy, but it’s just nice to be able to go back and rent stuff that I sort of wanted to see but didn’t want to purchase. Plus I can rent Blu-Ray movies for just a buck more. Wewt. Hopefully this will also curb my spending on the cheaper movies that are not bad. I tend to put those on the side and forget about them – so much so that I end up buying them again. I two copies of Black Hawk Down, Matrix Revolutions, and Kiss of the Dragon. WASTED.

Oh! Have you heard? See those dudes on the right? Yeah, they’re probably coming to Rock Band. If anything, I’d imagine it’s coming in disc form, similar the AC/DC track pack disc that’s coming exclusively to Wal-Mart. Crazy world. I’m passing on the AC/DC stuff ($40 for 18 songs?) but the Beatles would definitely be worth it.

Halloween. Eh, I got my stuff together for the most part. I just have to go pick up a black shirt. I have no idea how it looks together because I haven’t tried it on yet. I’ll find out on the 31st. I’m sure it’ll look fine. I mean, how bad could I look wearing a jean jacket, jean pants, black shirt, ratty old shoes, and a Guitar Hero controller on my back?

Have you seen me?

Actually, I think I just left it work. I hope.

Update: Oh, snap. It’s not at work. =[

My red Zune 8! Where did you go?

Update 2: Bah, I can’t find it at home either. Boo. I guess I’m just going to have to pick up a new one. Same color, more memory (16 GB), and awesome design on the back.

Update 3: I found it! It was downstairs on the coffee table. Weird. You’d think I would’ve seen that.

I’m actually a little sad I found it. The above Zune would’ve been awesome to get.

Take On Me

October 17, 2008 at 3:09 pm (Internet) (, , )

Another Friday, another week of work that’s gone by. I don’t have anything particular to post about, but I felt with it being Friday and me being the only one in the office for the rest of the day, I should take advantage of it by blogging. This is just going to be the usual post with various links and amusing pictures, so don’t expect too much.

Keep your eye on the ball(s)

At the Online News Association conference in Toronto, two U.S. university researchers presented “heat maps” showing which parts of a Web page readers focus on, based on experiments that use an eye-tracking camera in the base of a computer monitor.

O rly? O.o

But wait! It gets better (or worse)!

The revelation that the wandering eyes belonged to the males was embarrassing enough for the men in the audience, but researchers Laura Ruel and Nora Paul had a further humiliation in store. They got the same results when they repeated the experiment with pictures on the American Kennel Club site.

I don’t even know what that means.

Y’know, I think you fell asleep watching a DVD. No, seriously. Anyone notice the lighter and the spoon on the table? I see why you fell asleep now.

Take On Me – Literal Version

Wait for the lyrics.

So I was perusing the failblog website when I ran across this gem!

I don’t understand why this is a fail? I mean, it’s friggin’ awesome! The “bloody” handprints just rounds it out to be the perfect vanity plate.

And yet, another YouTube video! I’m not even sure how I came across this one but I’m glad I did. Watch out for her signature move!

The girl’s name is Kazumi and, from what I can gather from the video, she does a type dance called animation dance in Japan. Or something. My Japanese sucks. I don’t know a thing about these dance genres. I just know that she is super cute and super flexible. And did you catch her signature move? It’s kind of creepy.

Japanese TV though – crazy, ain’t it? Everyone’s always “whooaaaaa!” and “eeeeeehhh?”. (Wait, does that period belong there?) They’re all so enthusiastic and surprised by everything. Is it just for show or is it a cultural thing? I’m not sure, but I do enjoy watching it on occasion.

Whoa, after perusing around a bit on YouTube I found this video. Looks the attire she was wearing was from a commercial for milk. In the video they talk about whether or not the commercial was CG (computer graphics). Of course, it’s all the real deal. It sure looks unnatural the way she moves (she moves, oh, baybe). Or Supernatural!

Oh, crap! More YouTube videos! Lesson? Drink your milk to be like Neo!

Okay, focus! No more YouTube until I finish this, or else I’m just going to end up linking a whole slew of videos!

So I sort of have an idea on how to get myself and possibly others to start posting videos. Not necessarily vlogs but videos and responses. They’d be relatively short and wouldn’t really require any editing. Well, it’s not so much my idea but just something I saw people doing on YouTube. I might start it. I might not. Yeah, I’m pretty lazy so don’t get your hopes up.

Man, I cannot wait to get home so I can continue playing Dead Space. I am really enjoying the game. I’d recommend it to everyone out there. It’s a third-person sci-fi action-thriller game. I’ll probably be playing through a second time right after I beat (for achievements!).

Disclaimer: If you end up buying it on my recommendation but end up hating it, TS! Not my fault!

It’s Aloha Friday, no work ’til Monday! Have a good weekend, folks. Do whatever it is you kids do on the weekends.

It’s the Final Countdown

October 13, 2008 at 9:01 pm (Uncategorized)

This is less an update on things, and more about amusing things I’ve come across online. First, like the title says, I present to you the kazookeylele (found via Around the Net on G4).

Ugh, it’s hours later and this headache isn’t going away. However, I must prevail! This post will be completed!

I just found out about this odd phenomenon known as the “awkward turtle”.

Urban Dictionary

Awkward Turtle
During an awkward moment, this hand gesture is used to mark the situation as awkward, and, depending on the situation, makes it more awkward or clears the air. The awkward turtle is made by putting one hand on top of the other with the thumbs sticking outward and rotating forward. The speed of the rotating thumbs depends on the degree of awkwardness.
Boy- “I love you.”
Girl- “Um…that’s cool…”
Also, Youtube video demonstration!

It’s odd. I wonder if this is something that’s picked up with the younger crowd. I think it’s weird.

Also, neat physics art thing! Very cool.

Anyway, this headache doesn’t seem to be going away and I still need to get out and do some running. Maybe.

Only In Dreams

October 12, 2008 at 9:28 pm (Uncategorized)

Sundays are an exceptionally lazy day for me, usually. Most weekends I’ll get all of my to-do things finished during the day on Saturday, mostly consisting of laundry and maybe a bit of cleaning. This leaves me with nothing to do on Sundays except for doing a whole lot of nothing. I often end up napping mid-afternoon after exhausting myself with TV or something. This afternoon was no different, and I had the oddest dream(s).

It began with me stepping out the door of my home. Everything was a little bright, kind of like when you first step out of the theater and it’s still daylight outside. Colors were also saturated, where colors popped sort of like when you put polarized glasses on. Saturated? I’m not sure if that’s the word I’m looking for. I realized right away I was dreaming and continued on my way around my dream neighborhood. I remember thinking to myself about how surprised I was at how accurate the dream neighborhood was. Now, I’m not sure if it’s the same with everyone else, but I often find when I dream of places I’m familiar with they look different. However, since I already know where I’m supposed to be in the dream, I know where I am even if it looks completly different.

Where was I? Right. Darn TV keeps distracting me. The dream. I walked around for a bit and everything did look pretty close to what it actually looks like. Anyway, that dream ended and a new one started where I was in the world of House, the TV show on Fox. I don’t really remember much about that one. That probably happened because I was watching the DVDs before I took a nap. I think I woke up after the House one. I started thinking about the dream where I supposedly knew I was dreaming. Was I actually aware that I was dreaming, or was it all a part of the dream? That happens to me every now and then where I think I know I’m dreaming and so I try to do something like jump over a house or fly but it never seems to work.

You know what? This post sucks. I need to spruce it up with a bit of something something. Hm. Well, some time this afternoon I turned on the TV in my room and it was on channel 65. Now, this is normally one of the channels I skip so I have no idea what station it was. I can only assume my brother was watching something on it before I turned on the TV. Anyway, it was My Style network or some such crap with some girl talking about fashion. I was staring at the girl and thought she looked really familiar. I had some notion of who it was but I wasn’t positive. Check online – yep, it’s her. It was Topanga! I just thought it was weird. Oh, by the way, the show was The Dish or some such.

Dinner for the evening: Curry and white toast. Awesome.

When I Say Jamba…

October 7, 2008 at 10:48 pm (Uncategorized)

I will not say juice. I am never having a chocolate moo’d from Jamba Juice ever again. Seriously. It is too much. I hate dairy. I hate my inability to break down lactose. I hate everything so much.

I’m just glad I decided not to go running. That may have not ended… well.

Oh, God, I don’t want to “go” anymore. *sob*

(Inappropriate? Gross? Not a good blogging subject? Probably, but I don’t care. I want everyone to know how much pain and anguish I’m going through and to feel sorry for me. Feel sorry for meeeeeeeee.)

Guitar Hiro

October 7, 2008 at 3:49 pm (Uncategorized) (, , )

Halloween – dun dun dunnnn. On most Halloweens I stay at home and maybe watch a little TV. The last four Halloweens had fallen on a weekday, making it a bit difficult to justify staying out late seeing as how I had work the next morning. However, this year it falls on a Friday! I’m not all that into Halloween but Kalena and Kerry have graciously invited me to hang out with them and I accepted. Of course, this leaves me with one problem: what the heck do I wear?

Now, if you know me at all, you’d know that I am lazy. Really lazy. So when I started thinking about a costume I could wear, the first thing that popped into my head was this:

Now, I’ve got the red hair dye and most everything else. I just need the fish-net stockings. Haha! See that? I made a joke. I made like I was going to go dressed up as the chick. I am so (un)funny. Hunh, I just realized I can’t anyway because she plays the guitar wrong (oh snap!).

Anyway, yeah, a male guitar hero character. This the first thing that popped into my head that would be relatively simple. I’ve got the fake, plastic guitar, a jean jacket, and jean pants I can cut up. The rest would be relatively inexpensive to purchase. Probably. Well, I assuming I don’t get lazy and just go to Hot Topic for the shirt, belt, and bling (spikes, arm things).

Anyone have any other suggestions? Simple and cheap is the way to go.

Now on to the second half of my post – TV! The new season of all my favorite shows started about a month ago and let me tell you, it is friggin’ awesome. I’m only now getting back into the groove of having a schedule around my shows. What’s my schedule like? Well…

7:00-8:00 PM – Chuck on NBC
8:00-9:00 PM – Heroes on NBC

8:00 – 9:00 PM – Supernatural on The CW

Hmmm, now that I look at it, it sure doesn’t seem like a whole lot of TV. I could probably add in Mythbusters on Wednesday, but I hardly ever watch that live. I get that DVR’d and watch it when I have time. Burn Notice on USA is another great show I keep up with but, again, I hardly ever watch it live. I’ll usually catch it on Hulu.com. I should probably throw House in there too. I’d watch it on TV but I haven’t bothered to look up when it’s on so I’ve been watching that one on Hulu as well. Man, and I still have to catch up on season 1 of Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles on DVD so I can start watching season 2 on TV. So much TV, so little time!

Wow, now that seems like a lot of TV. All that time wasted when I could be bettering myself in a number of ways: work out more, community service, better my social skills…

Nah! TV is the only friend I’ll ever need.

Laziness, Thy Name is Me

October 5, 2008 at 9:06 pm (Uncategorized)

It’s been four days since my last post. Not exactly the posting frequency I was hoping for. Anyone surprised? Nah. I blame it on starting the blog so close to the weekend. Yeah, that’s it…

Thursday came and went and I got to watch Supernatural on TV. Kalena, being the uber fan that she is (probably more so than me), joined me for this momentous occasion. I mean, I have The CW! I even got to watch the last five minutes of the latest Smallville. Not that I’m into that show, I just wanted to brag ’cause I know a few of you watch it. Nyah, nyah.

I  haven’t done much of anything this weekend. One thing I did do?

Rocked out by myself in Rock Band 2! Can’t you see how hard I am rocking? Yes, very hard. Actually, it’s just me going “aaaahhhh” through most of the songs because 1. I don’t know the words and 2. I can’t sing all that well. Still, achievement points! Yes, it’s a sickness. What’s an achievement? It’s like those gold stars they put next to your name in elementary school for doing something well. Only useless.

Sunday’s been more or less a usual Sunday-lazy, sleep in, do a whole lot of nothing. I did get to drive down to the Midas and get my car’s safety sticker. It expired last month and I’d been a bit paranoid while driving around that I’d get pulled over and ticketed.

Hm, this has turned into one of those “what I did” posts. I do not approve, so I’ll have to do something about that! I haven’t gone jogging in as many days as I haven’t posted! I am sorely disappointed in myself. I’m hoping to get out tonight. Yeah, I think I’ll go after I finish this post.

Oh! I’m not sure I want to sully my blog with this kind of thing…enh, I’ll do it. Rachael Ray’s Corn Porn! Don’t worry about the link-it’s nothing as bad as the title implies. It’s a clip from her show. I’m not sure if she realizes what it looks like she’s doing but she sure seems to get really excited over it. I’d like to think she does realize what she’s doing and she’s trying to keep from busting out laughing on her show and in front of the other woman.

Yeah, I think I’ve delayed my exercise long enough. Time to hit the hamster wheel.

The CW

October 1, 2008 at 8:39 pm (Uncategorized) (, , )

The CW. The C-fricken-W. At home, I have standard cable and The CW isn’t one of the networks available. However, I have an HD TV that has some sort of magical power that makes it capable of receiving additional channels beyond the standard stuff. I have the HD versions of NBC, FOX, ABC, etc. and a bunch of other weird channels I don’t really pay attention to. The CW is one of those magical channels I receive. I noticed it last night when I was flipping through the channels and saw the little CW logo on the bottom-right corner of the TV. OH. EM. GEE. I’ve also confirmed this tonight because I’m watching the new 90210 right now.

What does this all mean? Well, Supernatural of course! This is currently my favorite show on TV. I lurves it. Like, seriously. Now I’ll be able to watch it live! This is going to sound kind of dumb, but I am excited for tomorrow.

Viva la TV!
